The keyboard can take a while to get used to if you have fat finger! For $400 I think ASUS should have included 1GB of memory, it wouldnt have cost them much but would improve performance. It is very easy to reinstall Linux from the recovery disk with a USB CDROM.Ĭons: Now for the niggles. The read performance of the SSHD is exceptional. The build quality seems very good and its taken a few knock while I have been traveling. Boot up times are also very quick 30seconds for windows XP (I removed Linux and installed XP as a trial, it runs very well). The screen is suprisingly good, bright and clear. I have purchased a 16G SD card which works great (also from Newegg) to get round the limited disk space and can now carry round a selection of movies and MP3s.

A definite buy if you need a cheap ultra portable or want to introduce a child to computing on a simplistic platform. It comes with a whole host of open-source software (firefox, open office, email) and can be used by even the most novice computer user. Its not a primary machine, as the keyboard is far too small, but has alot of nice features (webcam, decent ram, connectivity) It starts up really quickly (15 secs) and is ready to use. Pros: An excellent machine for those who travel or just need to do basic things on the go.
